Sunny is an American dark comedy television series created by Katie Robbins, based on the novel The Dark Manual by Irish[2] writer Colin O'Sullivan. The series premiered on July 10, 2024 on Apple TV+.[3]
Premise
A woman living in Kyoto whose husband and son vanished in a plane crash is given/gifted[4] a domestic robot from her husband's robotics company.

Production
In February 2022, Apple TV+ announced it had given Sunny a series order. Rashida Jones is set to star in and executive produce the series, which is set to film in Japan.[8] In July, Hidetoshi Nishijima joined the cast.[9] In October, Joanna Sotomura, annie the clumsy, You, Judy Ongg, and Jun Kunimura were added to the cast.[10]
Filming for the series began in Japan in July 2022.[11]
Release
Sunny was released on Apple TV+ on July 10, 2024.[3]
Reception
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 92% approval rating with an average rating of 7.2/10, based on 26 critic reviews.[5] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 71 out of 100 based on 12 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[12]
