The 1865 Maine gubernatorial election was held on 11 September 1865 in order to elect the Governor of Maine. Incumbent Republican Governor Samuel Cony won re-election against Democratic nominee and former Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court Joseph Howard in a rematch of the previous election.[1]
General election
On election day, 11 September 1865, incumbent Republican Governor Samuel Cony won re-election by a margin of 22,821 votes against his opponent Democratic nominee Joseph Howard, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of governor. Cony was sworn in for his third term on 2 January 1866.[2]
