Summary
DescriptionInterior of Market Hall - geograph.org.uk - 966178.jpg |
English: Interior of Market Hall, Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. This gabled Jacobean Cotswold stone market hall has five wide arches on each side and two at each end. The hall has an uneven stone floor and timber beams and rafters support the stone roof. Sir Baptist Hicks had the market hall built in 1627 to provide shelter for local fresh produce traders and the building carries his coat of arms. It has been owned by the National Trust since 1942 and has been re-roofed and repaired since then. |
