Taxus Baccata

Tsal (Betsalel) Kaplun, aka Tsal Kaplun, (c.1840-c.1908) was a Jewish Ukrainian (Kranostav, Khmel'nyska oblast, Ukraine) and descendant of the Nekhama Kaplun (Rybak) family, married to Nekhama Rybak (c.1843-c.1880), whose family, according to 1858 census records, lived in Krasnostav. He left behind nearly 60 grandchildren.^[1]

The name Tsal is borne by his grandchildren, Tsilik Kutman, and Tsunya Kaplun, who perished serving the Red Army, and his great-grandchildren Tsunya/Semyon Kaplun and Tsal Segal, who did not return from the war.^[2] Tal Segal, who now lives in Israel, is named after Tsal Segal.^[3]
