Beehive Island / Taungamaro Island is an island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. It sits southwest of Kawau Island.[1]

Geography

Beehive Island / Taungamaro Island is located off the southwestern coast of Kawau Island.[1] The Rosario Channel separates the island from Kawau, and the South Channel separates the island from Motuketekete Island to the southwest.[1]

Biodiversity

The island is among one of the few Hauraki Gulf islands which are free of invasive pests, such as rats, mice, plague skinks or Argentine ants.[2]

History

The Beehive Island Recreation Reserve was established on the island in 2009.[3]
