Summary
DescriptionHalesia carolina, skubblare, Manie van der Schijff BT, a.jpg |
English: The bud scales (brown and pale green) that protect a growth tip of a Little silverbell in the Manie van der Schijff Botanical Garden, Pretoria. The flowers are produced on twigs which already existed in a previous growth season. The bud scales are produced at the end of the growth season and protect the growth tips against winter cold and unfavourable circumstances. They are not to be confused with bracts that are found under a flower in an inflorescence. |
