Español: La edificación original fue construida por Antonio Baralt en 1840. Fue reemplazada en el mismo sitio con otro teatro levantado entre 1877 y 1883. El último fue demolido en 1928 y el actual fue diseñado y construido por León Jerome Hoet, con su inauguración en 1932.
Pocos saben que en 1895 allí se presentaron películas de cine por primera vez en América Latina (y tercera en el mundo) y que los diseños del techo interno y los frescos del pintor venezolano Antonio Angulo en 1930 fueron las primeras obras abstractas de Art Déco en la arquitectura nacional. Al excavar el piso en 1989, durante la restauración, descubrieron los muros del viejo teatro guzmancista de 1883 y un "basurero arqueológico" con cristales y piezas de cerámica holandeses, chinas, españolas e incluso precolombinas. Estuvo aprox. 25 años cerrado y 12 en restauración, abrió sus puertas de nuevo el 28 de julio de 1998. |
