Erin McGreehan (born July 1982)[1] is an Irish Fianna Fáil politician who has served as a Senator since June 2020, after being nominated by the Taoiseach.[2][3]

Early life

McGreehan grew up in Castletowncooley, a townland in the north of County Louth, and attended Mullaghbuoy National School and Bush Post Primary School.[4]

Personal life

McGreehan lives on the Cooley Peninsula with her partner, Donal McMorland, and their four children; they run an engineering business.[5]

Political career

Formerly a member of Ógra Fianna Fáil in County Louth she was elected to serve on the National Youth Committee, the Ógra Fianna Fáil National Executive. At the same time she was employed in Leinster House as a Parliamentary Assistant to Senator Diarmuid Wilson with whom she worked with for several years.

She previously served as a member of Louth County Council from 2019 to 2020.[6] In June 2020, she was nominated by the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, to Seanad Éireann.[7] Andrea McKevitt was co-opted to McGreehan's seat on Louth County Council following her nomination to the Seanad.

McGreehan was appointed to the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters and the Oireachtas Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.[8] The Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters have assisted the long-term campaign of Epilepsy Ireland to extend the Free Travel Pass to any person medically certified as unfit to drive to become law. This has been transformative and has resulted in significant expenditure savings for many disabled people and their families on public transport.[9]
