Summary
DescriptionSpokane - Old City Hall.jpg |
English: This is a picture of Spokane's old City Hall. When Spokane's earlier city hall, built in 1892-3, was determined to be directly in the way of a new Railroad viaduct, they commissioned architect Julius Zittel to design this simple building to hold the city offices which could later be converted into a wholesale warehouse. While meant to be temporary quarters until something actually resembling a government building was built, it remained city hall for 70 years. In 1983, when Montgomery Ward vacated their downtown store c.1983, It became the new city hall and remains to this day. This building was listed on the national Register of Historic Places on February 21, 1985. |
