Rudecindo Ortega Mason (Temuco, June 3, 1896-Santiago de Chile, October 10, 1962) was a Chilean politician who served as President of the United Nations General Assembly[1] and Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations.[2][3]
Personal life
He was born on June 3, 1899, and died on October 10, 1962.[4]
Career
In 1923, he started teaching at Instituto Nacional General José Miguel Carrera. He served as president on Commission for Education in Chamber of Deputies of Chile.[5] He was Minister for Education during first Pedro Aguirre Cerda ministry.[4]
In 1953, he was appointed as Chile's permanent ambassador to the United Nations by president Carlos Ibáñez del Campo. He presided over the Security Council. In addition, he held the presidency of the UN Commission on Human Rights. In 1956, he presided over the first and second special emergency sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.[6]
