Deletion of Nature section on Estonia page

Hello Moxy. Amateur contributor here (I haven't used Wikipedia since, oh, 2006 or so.) I added a section on Nature to the Estonia page, because it's a very significant cultural area and the page tries to cover those kind of topics, the topics that represent the country. I didn't put this in the edit since I need citations, but there's a long history of a sort of spiritual connection to the forests (Estonia never really Christianised), and still today (and I did add this with citations) lots of respect for specific individual trees, rocks, etc, as well as a history of, say, 'myth' around it - things like the partisans that lived in the forest.

The section was removed for 'tone' and I thought it was quite neutral? What was the reason for the removal? There were citations from respected news outlets like ERR as well as at least one neutral NGO, plus an internationally targeted English-language magazine.

Or was it the quote from the president? He's a very respected president of Estonia, and his quote was there to illustrate the cultural view of the Estonian people. I thought the president was about the best possible way to represent that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:7D0:8CA8:E280:F4AA:B8:A1FF:3980 (talk) 15:06, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I saw the discussion with Bish on your talk page. I'm afraid she was right, see [1]. I think I see what happened, you copied from this version[2] of Human rights in Saudi Arabia. That was added by an IP vandal Oct 28 2021[3] Doug Weller talk 12:01, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear moxy, Almost every wikipedia, country page shows that but, it shows formation, formation is also apart of history and establishment, thats what canterbury tail told me. Dogemama73 (talk) 08:56, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I said no such thing. I removed your insertion of the Mongol invasions from the Established (Formation) fields in Japan because the Mongol Invasions have nothing to do with the establishment or formation of Japan. It's not a history section, it's about formation of the state. Unlike in some article subjects, the Mongol invasion didn't change the state or government of the country and were not successful. It's not like the Soviet invasions that put a new government in some Eastern European country. Canterbury Tail talk 19:03, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Best bring your argument to article talk page....what your adding in my view is historical events not related to its formation. Moxy- 09:10, 11 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Template notices at "Template:For timeline" and "Template:For outline"

Both notices at the top of {{For timeline}} and {{For outline}} appear to suggest a proposal to merge with each other which matches the edit summaries as well. The TfD discussion comments however indicate a merge with {{See also}} and/or {{Further}}. I assumed you meant the latter; is that right? --N8wilson 🔔 19:22, 28 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You've been away awhile? Please don't go on vacation to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon again without me. Copyright violation?

Hi, I was wondering where the recent concern about a copyright violation occurred? I've been editing a number of articles and am having trouble locating where the problem originated. CheckersBoard (talk) 11:05, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

stop copy pasting and you wont have that problem. Moxy- 11:10, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I didn't. And I didn't write the article, I only wrote about one sport. Content I added does not read the same as other articles, plus the article includes sections on other sports so it follows that form. But the entire article is poorly sourced now that I look at it, so having it considered for deletion actually makes sense. It doesn't appear to have been properly developed anyways. Help in Turkish page

Hi Moxy! I would like to use your expertise. One user is constantly touching images for the Turkey articles. Simply adding a filter and increasing the contrast. But this lowers the image quality and I think it is totally unnecessary. I wonder if you could help me how to stop it. Most of the images in İstanbul page already had this issue.

File:YDA-Center-03.jpg File:View_of_Levent_financial_district_from_Istanbul_Sapphire.jpg File:Bosphorus_Bridge_(235499411).jpeg File:Basilica_Cistern_after_restoration_2022_(11).jpg

Mosul: undue weight?

Hi Moxy, I noticed that you flagged my recent to Mosul about its medieval metalworking industry with template:undue weight. Which perspective did I unduly emphasize? Or did you mean that the section is disproportionately large? I agree, at least some of this content probably ought to be in a separate article. I'm not sure which parts should get split off, though. I think the first six paragraphs can probably stay. The two paragraphs beginning "Only two items..." and "Modern western scholarship..." I'm less sure of. Some of the ideas near the end of that second paragraph I think should probably stay. A mention of Mosul's influence in Egypt, Syria, and Iran might also be worth having. The rest can probably go. What do you think?

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:39, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Conflict of Interest question and casting aspersions on other editors

You have recently made a series of edits advancing a particular POV in regards to the Métis Nation of Ontario. For instance:this edit, where you seem to want to promote the group's website and a non-Native encyclopedia opinion piece on a site that just happens to have "encyclopedia" in their site name over reliable, third-party Métis and First Nations sources. What is your connection to this group? Regarding these comments you made, I'm going to repeat what I said at Talk:Métis:

Implying that cited sources and editors are "racist", or committing "race murder", for discussing the many issues with that group, such as being called out by the National Council for being "90% non-Métis", among other things, is highly inappropriate. Indigenous identity is based in citizenship, not race.
I strongly suggest you do not imply that other editors are "racist" or committing "race murder" for citing reliable sources, especially when they are members in good standing of the Indigenous editing pool here on the 'pedia.

- CorbieVreccan 18:19, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@CorbieVreccan:This is very disappointing to say the lest. Not sure how to move foreward when there is clearly an agenda to omit recognition of specific groups that have legal status. Thinking best to ask others about this as its clear that there is a problem when sources are removed or misrepresented by omitting . The comments are not from me they're from the sources that were provided... one of the sources used literary genocide..... not sure journalism is the best way to go here.....Thus far the lead has a dead source and 2 that cover Ontario ..So why the censorship ?.. The Métis (/mˈt(s)/ may-TEE(S); Canadian French: [metis]) are Indigenous peoples who inhabit Canada's three Prairie Provinces, as well as parts of British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, and the Northern United States.[1][dead link][2][failed verification][3] [failed verification] . Has anyone here looked at Upper Great Lakes Métis?. Don't you find it odd the same edit has been trying to been inserted over and over..... calling in vandalism is clearly wrong when there's a multitude of sources in the article and even the statement ....the historical evidence in the Powley case was undeniable: Métis in Ontario have been standing up for their rights as a distinct group since the very beginning
O well not sure we have any way forward. At least the sources are there for people to see for themselves. Cindy was absolutely right about the meger years ago. Moxy- 01:46, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

On the other hand, I have various clues that lead to another account very likely operated by the same person behind Riopex, and I also think I know who is the sockmaster. I have already discussed about this with an admin+CU. If you have other clues that lead to other accounts with similar behaviour, please respond here and we might open a CU investigation. Please use edit summaries

You're making rather sizeable edits without any edit summaries, on a number of articles. It can be very difficult to collaborate when massive changes happen with no indication of which changes were made when, forcing other Wikipedians to parse through the details of every edit individually. It would be helpful to other editors if you summarize your edits; this is basic user etiquette that is expected of anyone who is not a beginner here. - CorbieVreccan 22:21, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Native names in the article of Guatemala

Hi Moxy, thank you very much for reviewing my edit on Guatemala's Article, it's the first time I do this kind of edits so any kind of feedback is always welcome. I thought that the template and formatting I chose was correct because I used the same Collapsible list template also present for the articles from both Peru and Bolivia, other countries in Latin America where native languages are co-official like Guatemala. Is there any way I can add them to the infobox or at least in another part of the article using the correct format, I would like to add them but if there is some kind of rule that prevents me, I would like to hear it to avoid making the same mistake. Best Regards. Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 01:31, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

This parameter has nothing to do with indigenous names is about first language. This should be removed from the other articles. This is a common mistake amongst American editors were the word native refers to a people.... the rest of the world used to the term a different manner..... like he's a native of Moscow. Moxy- 01:39, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh sorry, in which parameter of the infobox should I add this information? I have seen that both South Africa and Zimbabwe pages use the infobox parameter native_name to put the names in the indigenous languages. I'm sorry, if I don't understand much about this, it's the first time I do this. Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 01:49, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This type of info should only be in the lead if it's official.... as an official secondary name... not just recognized languages of a country...... as some countries have hundreds of recognized languages..... but they only have a few official dialects.Wikipedia:WikiProject Countries#Facts table.Moxy- 02:26, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Interesting although you could define better what is "Official secondary language" there is not even a Wikipedia page about it. And I really wonder where did you get this information that there are some countries where they have hundreds of recognized languages, the only information I got is that Bolivia has 37 recognized languages but as the constitution has only been officially translated into Quecha, Aymara and Guarani, it was decided through consensus to only add those languages to the infobox. There are also other examples, for example Nigeria is one of the most linguistically diverse countries but it was decided to include only the three most spoken languages, which are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. When I decided to add those languages to the Guatemala infobox I thought there was no problem, because the Ecuador's Article listed Shuar in the lead, even though this language is only spoken in two not so populated provinces of the country, while the Mayan languages I placed are widely spoken in several departments of Guatemala and even the government of the country publishes news articles in Mayan languages like this one. It is rare to see other countries translate their constitution and it is something unfortunately not very common, based on what I have been told by people from different parts of the world, plus the Guatemalan constitution has only been translated into 4 of the most spoken native languages and there are no plans to translate it into more. Anyway, thanks for your time, although I would like your opinion in the case of Uganda, I decided to establish consensus on this and I was told that I should put native languages in the Infobox because they are widely spoken. Seb { 💬 Talk + 📝 Edits } 13:31, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
This are great examples of what needs to be fixed. To quote template =An inline formatting template, based on {{Lang}}, for indicating the official/defacto name in a language other than English. "native" is a linguists term used for " first language" or " mother tongue" called a "L1" name.... it may or may not be indigenous in nature. First language as in "You are a native speaker of that language" that in most cases is not an indigenous one. There is a parameter for languages used.Moxy- 13:43, 3 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Searching a bit about this, according to Wiktionary, "Native language" refers to the languages first learned by certain communities in a country. Guatemala is the Central American country with the largest indigenous population, so much so that UN estimates say that about 41% of the population identifies themself as indigenous. That is one of the reasons why several organizations, including the UN, asked the Guatemalan government to translate the constitution into the most widely spoken native languages, since many communities in the country had difficulty learning Spanish. Besides it is difficult to determine a "de facto" language in certain countries, for example Switzerland has 4 official languages which are widely spoken depending on the canton, both de jure and de facto. Also other examples for Hawaii, which English is much more extensive because it is part of the USA, Hawaiian is still spoken on a smaller scale and yet it is included in the lead and infobox of the article. Democratic backsliding article

Hi, you say you were unable to find the quote, but it's there in the cited source Cassani et al. Here is a larger quote:

Autocratization is a process of regime change towards autocracy that makes the exercise of political power more arbitrary and repressive and that restricts the space for public contestation and political participation in the process of government selection. More specifically, in their contribution to this special issue, Cassani and Tomini (2019) use autocratization as an umbrella concept encompassing a rather broad range of regime transitions sharing the same direction. These include outright transitions from democracy to autocracy, but also transitions that do not necessarily result in the outright breakdown of a democratic regime (e.g. Hungary in 2011) and transitions occurring in countries that are already authoritarian.

Unfortunately, "democratic transition" is not a suitable paraphrase for the reasons described later on in the quote; democratic transition is usually used to refer to when an authoritarian regime becomes a democracy. (t · c) buidhe 07:21, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok will look later as "regime change " is simply one of many reasons. Moxy- 11:44, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Australia, Your changes to lead

Hi Moxy I reverted your changes because they need to be discussed on the Talk page. I can see why you want to summarise the information about Australia's international relations, but your wording is too geeneral and vague. One could take any country in the world and say that they "are a member of many international organisations" and "tend to sign multilateral agreements". We need to be more specific than that, but perhaps without adding a shopping list of international agreements. I'd be happy to discuss this on the talk page of the article. Railway hotels page

I'm still unclear why you reverted the "Grand railway hotels of Canada" page to a previous version, and your reference to the article's talk page does not explain this. Was this regarding the definition of "grand?" This reversion has resulted in the loss of substantial information, including previously missing photographs and names of architects. Furthermore, there are still hotels listed on the page you reverted to that would scarcely qualify as "grand," such as the McAdam. I would be in favour of removing the word "grand" altogether from the page, since it's so ambiguous. The purpose of this page is to talk about hotels built by Canadian railways, and I don't see how the size of each hotel matters. I would be happy to discuss this on the talk page, but for now I would appreciate an explanation of your rationale. Tsc9i8 (talk) 14:46, 28 July 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Railway hotel page

I would like to deal with the issue of reversions on the railway page civilly. Several times now you have reverted changes I've made without providing a good explanation. Most recently, you wrote "not in the book." Presumably you're referring to Grand Hotels: Reality and Illusion, which you referenced in the talk section. An article is supposed to be a summary of a topic, not of a single secondary source. Therefore, saying that information on the topic of railway hotels in Canada can only come from this book runs contrary to the nature of an encyclopedia article. Information can, and should, come from multiple sources.

The previous time you reverted my changes, you simply said "not grand hotels." However, you didn't specify which items you were referring to. Furthermore, on the talk page people had already said that "grand hotel" was a phrase, and does not refer to a specific size of building. Therefore, any judgment of "grand" is subjective. Prior to the edits I made, there were already multiple items in the list that would scarcely qualify as "grand."

I await your response and I hope we can resolve this sensibly. Tsc9i8 (talk) 22:35, 8 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Help needed

Good day. There is a lot of disruption and cherrypicking of sources done by editors on Balsic noble family at the moment. I honeslty think that POV pushing like this should have no place on articles about Middle ages. At the same time, one editor, within hours of massive changes on this article, asked to have it renamed, per Albanian POV. Just check the COA description and the way new material has been formulated. Can we get things back to neutral and status quo? Thank you. 109.245.229.163 (talk) 15:54, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

October music

User talk:Gerda Arendt#Music keeps track of "my" music and memories, and just today I have a juxtaposition of music performed by the two church choirs in town, one I sang in and one where I listened, to music about love, evening and night. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:32, 19 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:08, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I thought of Brian Bouldton today, and his ways to compromise, to continue the musings. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 29 October 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello

Yes, long time no see, I've been busy, so im glad for this short time i am back at Wikipedia (As you guessed). But i reversed your edit since, again the Kingdom of D'mt (earliest) verifiable form of Kingdom of Ethiopia dates back to 980 BC, and the Kingdom of Aksum around 150 BC, i have stated if anyone ones to debate such a thing, a Talk page discussion rather than reverting it will be the solution. And as for now, D'mt, source: The Archaeology of Africa: Food, Metals and Towns - Google Books, and Kingdom of Aksum, source: Munro-Hay, Stuart (1991). Aksum: An African Civilisation of Late Antiquity. Edinburgh: Edinburgh University Press. p. 69. ISBN 0748601066. (Do date around 980 BC, and 150 BC, being the earliest forms of government) Unless you have sources which you can lay out at Talk Ethiopia, this would be very messy. The infobox is about the modern state...and pls for the 5th time read WP:Sandwich. Not sure your understanding what people keep saying to you. Moxy- 02:15, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That's not how things work: For example here are examples of Infoboxs of Not "Modern" states which contain exons before, here for Japan: Japan - Wikipedia, Iran - Wikipedia, China - Wikipedia, and Egypt - Wikipedia, there many articles i can go to which show periods of time beyond the concept of any type of modern state. So I wish you can apply that logic in those pages also, not trying to come across as "that" person. CtasACT (talk) 02:33, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I will not edit anymore since there's barely anything to edit now, unless someone tries to change the balance now. Anyways have a nice week! CtasACT (talk) 02:36, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Not sure you have the competency to edit here as right after the post above you sandwich text again and removed sources needed tags without providing sources...... this has been mentioned to you multiple times on both accounts. Moxy- 03:15, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

November music

Vacation pictures offered if you click on songs, and my story today is a DYK hook from 13 years ago OTD: about the great music at one of my churches. Mozart's Requiem to come on Sunday, coupled with Arvo Pärt's Da pacem Domine, - I guess you might come if it was a bit closer. Perhaps watch the video of our last production, our first on yt, ever. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:24, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Historical paintings depicting average Italians and their clothing

Ok, my friend, then I'm going to move to a new page called List of historical paintings depicting the common Italian people, because I consider it very important for material and a good resource to know the poor and common people that existed in Italy in its history, and also a page for the Russians. What do you think, I think that this time it is possible.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:28, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What we are looking for is prose....not a kids picture book. Pls review WP:NOTGALLERY #4. Moxy- 01:34, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My friend, it is not a picture book for children, as well as prominent people appear somewhere in wikipedia, why not show the people who appeared in its history, in the countries a list a little imcomplete, but it is important, this shows the reality of the country in its stages of poverty and wealth, it helps a lot to give the idea of what the country was like, how it lived, what it thought, if there were celebrities that are shown, the people that refer to a country, why not put it, please bro, or even give me a solution, since you don't let me do anything.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:46, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just as there are lists of all kinds, list of buildings of a city, list of incomplete buildings, if I start looking I easily find lists less clear than this. --LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:48, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

the list clearly shows a not known reality of the italian people, very beautiful by the way, what is the gravity of hiding not to put this, what is the damage it does to put the people of a country for centuries. why don't you want to put it? I'm sorry my friend, I don't want to bother you mate, I'm going to put it up, I'm going to fix it, I'll see what I can do, thanks my friend.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:52, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Looking for academic contributions ....see WP:PROSE. Moxy- 01:54, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Look what I put on russia, actually those people lived very poor, historical images often show what an article can not do, and transmitted by witnesses and people of the time.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:55, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

What we are looking for is a paragraph accompanied by an image not an image all on its own with a random sentence that does not explain context or historical significance. That said good luck. Moxy- 01:58, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, that is not a prose, what if I put all the paintings without choosing the most suitable ones, do you think that, my friend, is what I can do?--LaGuairabeach (talk) 01:57, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Not sure what your saying....perhaps WP:IMGCONTENT may help. Moxy- 02:01, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you brother, I humbly don't know how to thank you, thank you, that said I love you, you and all of you who reconsidered this, thank you very much my dear friends.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 02:00, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dude, here it is, you can see how I'm doing if you want, you have to accept that I'm now doing well, I try to put my best effort :). User:LaGuairabeach/Draft: List of historical paintings depicting the common Italian people.--LaGuairabeach (talk) 05:52, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I have zero knowledge of the topic....pls see Wikipedia:AFCREVIEW. Moxy- 15:34, 7 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Happy Holidays

Peace is a state of balance and understanding in yourself and between others, where respect is gained by the acceptance of differences, tolerance persists, conflicts are resolved through dialog, people's rights are respected and their voices are heard, and everyone is at their highest point of serenity without social tension. Happy Holidays to you and yours. ―Buster7
