Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, template editor rights and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

Permissions

Handled here

  • Account creator (view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
  • Autopatrolled (view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
  • AutoWikiBrowser (view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
  • Confirmed (view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
  • Event coordinator (view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
  • Extended confirmed (view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
  • File mover (view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
  • Mass message sender (view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
  • New page reviewer (view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Page mover (view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Pending changes reviewer (view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
  • Rollback (view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
  • Template editor (view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.

Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

Removal of permissions

If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.

This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

Process

Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.

Any editor may comment on requests for permission.

Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

Have been creating reliably sourced and copyvio-free articles, mainly about female martial art world champions, on a regular basis. Thank you  Lewolka (talk) 10:44, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

I've looked through your recent articles and made some tweaks. Mostly minor. Good work, Lewolka. The only real article issue is that I had to place a maintenance tag on Fight Sports; can you please attend to this? Beyond that, what confuses me is a photo being added "taken by you" on 20 July 2022 to the Claire-France Thevenon bio; this appears to be from the same series that can be seen in this blog post dated 20 October 2020. How come this is your photo? And if it is your photo, and it is indeed from that series published in 2020, why did you add it to the bio some two months after you wrote it? If there's an explanation for it that you'd rather not publish here for all to read, my Wikimail is open. Schwede66 23:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Schwede66, Have updated with additional categories and fixed the date on the image based on exif. The pp template was missing after Volunteer Response Team was contacted. it has now be added. Sending you details by wikimail. Best Lewolka (talk) 13:59, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Done Thanks for your email about the photo. In future, don't mark photos as "your work" when they were supplied. Happy editing and keep up your good work. Schwede66 19:25, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you @Schwede66 and lesson learnt about supplied pics. Best Lewolka (talk) 19:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

I have created over 45 articles with one deleted and over 250 redirects at Articles for creation/Redirects and categories. Since I am less busy now, I plan to create more and more articles. I'm familiar with the notability requirements and neutral point of view. With the huge backlog at NPP with 10,000+ articles yet to be reviewed, I don't want to bother the queue with my articles. Comr Melody Idoghor (talk) 20:37, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Done Thanks, good work. Your biggest issue is with capitalisation and I suggest you give MOS:CAPS a read. But that's not a big enough issue for autopatrolled. Happy editing and keep up your good work. Schwede66 20:27, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

User:VersaceSpace

I'd like to avoid bothering NPP with my articles. Granting me this right would otherwise benefit the encyclopedia because, due to the type of articles I commonly write (musical content with definite release dates), having these articles indexed (or eligible for indexing) quickly would, in my view, make it easier for readers to find the information they seek when they need it most (i.e. a release date or announcement), and would also promote the addition of content to these types of articles. Thank you. --VersaceSpace 🌃 20:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

  • Non-Admin Comment: This user has roughly created 22 articles on mainspace and doesn't meet the criteria and most of his drafts are deleted.  DIVINE  15:18, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
DIVINE, if you had done as much as looked at my user page, you'd see that I've created 39 articles, some of which are redirect-expansions. The bot only counts the first edit to a page. If you want to be the judge of me that's fine, but I expect you to do the proper research. My deleted drafts are because I stopped editing them. —VersaceSpace 🌃 16:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Since I am not a judge and cannot evaluate you or your work, I will not object to your request, whether you receive it or not. If you do, there won't be any more backlog, which will be good for me as NPR. Rest comfortably and relax...  DIVINE  09:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
  • You aren't far off. We all have errors of judgement occasionally and Kenneth Petty isn't a showstopper. What gives me pause is that, with some regularity, you don't define DEFAULTSORT for bios and create uncategorised articles. That should be easy enough to avoid. The other thing that I'd like to see happen is that when you create a bio, that you place {{WikiProject Biography|living=y}} on the talk page (you seem to focus on living people and it's good to advertise that we are dealing with WP:BLPs). What do you say, VersaceSpace? Schwede66 21:25, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

Reason for requesting autopatrolled rights Mustafdesam (talk) 06:45, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

I have been creating reliably sourced articles for the past 11 years. I mainly write articles based on films, film technicians, writers, artists, and painters on a regular basis. I would like to have requests for permission for auto-patrolled. Thank you  Mustafdesam (talk) 12:15, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

User:Tulsi

So far created 65+ new articles, only one controversial deletion of a promotional article created twice, back in 2020. I am ashamed of my activity. I should not have created that promotional article. It was completely my bad. Its been two years since then. And, I am (not perfect) very much improved. I am now focused, creating biographies of living persons about politicians. All new articles are reviewed okay by the reviewers; not a single article is nominated for deletion so to lower the workload of reviewers, I am here to kindly ask for autopatrolled. Thank you for your consideration. — Tulsi 24x7 09:58, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Not done. Your interest in writing articles seems to have only emerged very recently, and the overwhelming majority (if not all, I only checked about a dozen) of those creations seem to be stubs based off of a template of sorts, usually only backed by one or two sources; a number of them (e.g. [1][2][3][4][5]) also have maintenance tags on them. I'm not comfortable granting autopatrolled at this time, especially considering the past COI concerns. --Blablubbs (talk) 20:22, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
I am devastated to see that you have only 3 live creation on mainspace and you hold autopatrolled (Fair enough you're sysop you can hold it). I fear you might came out of nowhere on someone advice to solely reject this request. I feel this is unfair. As an admin you shouldn't involve yourself in such things and let other admins review who actually do that. This is heart-wrenching. — Tulsi 24x7 05:45, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Anything but a rare maintenance tag is a disqualifying feature, Blablubbs. Autopatrolled editors are supposed to create clean articles. Schwede66 21:22, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Ah, I am not surprised. Adding tags is quite easy in comparison to look for references and add them into the article. Its difficult when it's come to find references for Nepalese politicians. Atleast I have managed to add one or two sources. No issues. I am glad that I have created those articles which will stays within Wikipedia till it lives. Anyway, Thank you Blablubbs and Schwede66 for your quick response. I appreciate it. Face-smile.svg Kind regards, — Tulsi 24x7 00:50, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Tulsi: Up until a week a ago you had just a handful of created articles and would definitely have fallen under the "recommended minimum" criteria alone. The stubs you have created don't demonstrate to me a clear capability in writing appropriately sourced, notable articles. Personally I am not a fan of creating numerous stubs in the hope/expectation others will deal with them later on. It isn't my place to judge and that's already been done above, however don't take it to heart too much as whether you have AP or not is immaterial to editing ability. Bungle (talk • contribs) 06:23, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Bungle: LOL! 1) "The stubs you have created don't demonstrate to me a clear capability in writing appropriately sourced, notable articles." I am not open to your judgement/opinion/comment when you said, "It isn't my place to judge...". 2) You tried to change the whole scenario here, "...whether you have AP or not is immaterial to editing ability." I know this. I have created "65+ valid articles" which passes the the suggested standard for obtaining Autopatrolled. This is why I applied. And, if you are not fan of stubs then, the guidelines could be changed to "25 Good articles"? Please don't demotivate to not create stubs. It's always better to have something than having nothing at all. 65 redlinks turned into bluelinks. Thank you for your understanding. — Tulsi 24x7 10:03, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
No, Tulsi, that understanding is not correct. The minimum number of articles set at 25 is somewhat arbitrary and serves as a proxy for experience. I have assigned autopatrolled to editors with fewer than 25 new articles. What matters is that those articles must be clean and editors need to be able to demonstrate that they are competent. And when those 25 articles are mostly stubs then we don't know whether competence is there. Hence, there's a lot more at play here than just a numeric threshold. Schwede66 10:27, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Ok, I don't think it's worth getting too exasperated over. I was just making the point that having AP or not is no big deal. Your application is essentially based on activity over the past week only. As noted, I don't make these decisions but you seem a bit taken aback by the decision when there is no reason to be. Bungle (talk • contribs) 10:36, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

I'd like to do specific tasks in a way that is both automated and supervised (i.e. I review the edits before they are performed), and I think that AWB would be faster to configure than writing a bot task with the same purpose. I am planning on using AutoWikiBrowser to categorize pages gathered from related categories using keywords and data from infoboxes and to tag sourceless/one-source pages with the respectful maintenance tags. Hi! I do a lot of work with adding citations as part of WikiProject Unreferenced Articles, as well as clean-up of existing reference issues. I try to leave pages better than I found them by copyediting, removing promotional material/weasel words, adding pertinent links, etc. Additionally, I try to tag unreferenced articles appropriately, and remove the unreferenced tags from articles with sufficient citations, turn external links and notes into actually references when possible, and so on. I think AWB could be helpful with all of these things and hopefully help get through the unreferenced backlog more quickly. December 2009 has 19,000+ articles and I'm dreading it already. Thanks! I wish to obtain the New Page Reviewer permission because I know that there is an extensive backlog of pages that need appropriate and thorough review before publishing and I wanted to step up and help reduce the burden on the current taskforce. I have assisted with reverting a significant amount of vandalism in the past and would love to continue assisting the encyclopedia in other needed ways. I have made over 7,500 edits and have been entrusted with the rollback and pending changes permissions. I have also extensively read the Wikipedia:New pages patrol and feel that I have a well-rounded grasp on how to properly review a new page. • CanadianJudoka - there's a reason it takes longer. NPP is not an easy task, and requires critical thinking skills and knowledge of relevant policies and guidelines. The material needs to be supported by the cited sources, and part of job is to ensure that it does. Are you aware of the procedures for reviewing? Please see WP:NPP and consider enrolling in WP:NPPSCHOOL if you are serious about becoming a proficient NPP reviewer. Thank you in advance for your willingness to help and careful consideration about becoming a member of NPP. Atsme 💬 📧 18:08, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Atsme: I have reviewed WP:NPP and believe that I understand the relevant policies and guidelines, and I would ask for advice in cases where I am unsure. A training program would require more time than I am able to commit at the moment, though. I am a professor who has a flexible schedule in the summer and sometimes contributes to Wikipedia, but I am not interested in treating the reviewer role as a job and will not have much time for Wikipedia after late-August. It's fine if this disqualifies me from becoming a new page reviewer, as I am just offering to help out a bit when I can. --CanadianJudoka (talk) 19:38, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the explanation, CJ. Your offer to help with the backlog is very much appreciated. Rollback

(view requests)

User:-Alabama-

Hi. I am an active maintenance user here at enwiki. The reason I'm here requesting the rollback is because I undo non-constructive edits and spam, and in many cases I've had to mass undo vandals after warning them for their edits, something like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/2A02:C7E:5729:E600:49B7:3F6B:4310:A674 I had to use Twinkle, which is very tedious without the right (which would be useful to me).
I sincerely apologize by the mistakes I made. After that, I've been reflecting on my actions and now I'm familiar with the rollback policy and I know very well the difference between undo and rollback. I promise none of that will ever happen again. Thanks. -Alabama- (talk) 00:26, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Fastily, I sure hope they learned since this discussion. I don't mind if you restore rollback, though I can't say I'm impressed with their communication skills in this request. Drmies (talk) 01:12, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
@-Alabama-:  Done but with the caveat that rollback is only to be used on obvious vandalism. If in doubt, do not use rollback. Please be advised that another misuse of this tool will result in its immediate revocation. Thanks, FASTILY 06:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Reason for requesting rollback rights Inoxent AR (talk) 12:53, 18 July 2022 (UTC) I have consistently demonstrated my commitment to fighting vandalism on a number of articles, including providing detailed summaries of reverts, and also adding User Warnings to user Talk pages with appropriate information on policies and violations. It has come to my attention that the undo button is often not enough for restoring a page from vandalizing users who use multiple IPs and/or use intermediary edits as a means of preventing the reverting of their harmful edits. The rollback feature is what accomplishes this efficiently and effectively. Thank you.

Not done I sampled your recent reverts and found numerous instances where you are reverting good faith edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4). To be clear, none of these edits contsitute vandalism. And even if these are vandalism, you don't make that clear because you never warn editors. If you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor; I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or RedWarn which make this very easy. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. -FASTILY 06:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Not done Just a few days ago, you were warned for disruptive editing, making bad reports at RfPP, and abusing Welcome templates. With all due respect, I think you need to spend a few months improving your editing skills before thinking about advanced permissions. -FASTILY 06:09, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

1. My edits were later allowed to be included because the user who warned me released I was right 2. Yes for making reports 3. I wasn't abusing welcoming templates I was just being nice, user gave me pointers and not warnings. Fastily Uricdivine (talk) 20:37, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Reason for requesting rollback rights

I've spent a lot of time monitoring recent changes, and so I'd like to request rollback rights. I currently use swviewer to monitor the changes and RedWarn. I am familiar with how to issue warnings on user pages. In addition, I have already reported users on the site for administrator intervention when necessary.

Although this may not be as relevant, I already have rollback rights in the German Wikipedia, so I'm already familiar with it. Mustermaster (talk) 10:22, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
