Image spambots

Hi Stein. Is there a way you could use a bot to generate a list of images that have links to websites in their descriptions and update it daily? I would love to have a list or filter like this to patrol daily, and then share it with Herbythyme when he comes back from vacation. This is the new generation of spambot activity. We hardly get any of the X-Rumer page spamming pattern accounts any more, but we get plenty of image spambot pattern accounts uploading generic photos and screencaps and then spamming the descriptions to get around abuse filters like #85 and #113. Yes. Here are a couple examples of these image spambots and how they work: [1] and [2]. These two were spambots both spamming a link, 007soccerpicks.net, that had already been spam blacklisted by Herbythyme. I let him know on his talk, and you commented there too: User talk:Herbythyme/Arc27. We get probably 5 to 10 of these per day on average. This first started back in 2013 when I was still a checkuser. The majority of these are coming from big webhosts in India, Bangladesh, and the US. The images are often copyvio stock photos and web screencaps, which makes this a spam and copyright problem all in one. lNeverCry 01:35, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

First overwritten Toonami blue-white logo needs deletion

Recently I uploaded the new logo file for Toonami's Wikipedia page, and when uploading it, the white-blue color of the logo did not fare well with the background. So I reuploaded it in black so people could actually see the logo on white. The version before the black reupload of the file, the white one hard to see, is no longer needed on Wikipedia and I'd like it deleted.

I would use speedy delete but I'm not sure if it would delete the whole file. I am not new to Wikipedia but I am to Commons. I just want the image I overwritten deleted.

Possible to recover a deleted image?

Hi Steinsplitter, Is there a way to recover an archived copy of an image that has been deleted due to copyright claim, much like you can check archive.org for archival copies of webpages? There was an image at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Turf_Club_Night.jpg that was deleted on April 22, 2016 due to copyright claim, but I need to find a way to view the original file to provide as reference in a copyright dispute. Cats & images

Hi Steinsplitter, I was wondering if everything here could be added to User:CommonsDelinker/commands,
All of the categories there I originally moved myself without any discussion, 2 editors had objected soon after and wanted me to revert and move all of the cats back hence why I've added them at User_talk:CommonsDelinker/commands/Category_moves#State_highway_marker_category_moves,
So I was wondering if they could be moved back (with the images) to their original cats (The discussion inre to the 2 editors is here, Thanks, –Davey2010^Talk 01:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:World Billiards Logo.jpg

Hi Steinsplitter, bei o.g. Datei hat Sfan00 IMG m. E. nach eine nicht gerechtfertigten LA gestellt. Ich denke, dass die Datei den von mir angegebenen Lizenzen entspricht, weil sie nur aus einfachen geometrischen Formen und Text besteht. Warum nun die Datei auf en:WP eine Non-free-Lizenz enthält verstehe ich nicht. Was meinst du dazu? Der LA-Steller räuspert sich seit meiner Antwort nicht. rotate Cicindela arenaria viennensis

Hallo, hier bin ich wieder (abgeregt). Ich hab' die Verhaltensregeln einmal und die rotate-Sache zweimal durchgelesen, blick aber mit den Exif-Daten ändern nicht ganz durch. Unabhängig davon gibt es offenbar zwei Probleme. Entweder das Bild ist einwandfrei falsch orientiert - wegen der neuen Software oder nicht - oder man kann das Bild so oder so orientieren, dem einen User ist es so lieber, dem andern anders. Ich hab mir jetzt alle 24 Verwendungen der Datei angesehen, bei manchen ist die Orientierung egal, bei anderen ist die alte Orientierung eindeutig besser, teilweise ist der Text auf die schmalere Bildseite eingestellt. Ich habe jetzt die vertikale (gedrehte) Form auf meinen PC geladen. Außerdem habe ich dem Ypna auf seiner englischen Talk-Seite das Problem dargestellt (scheint aber nicht oft besucht zu sein) und vorgeschlagen: Ich lade die vertikale Form unter Cicindela arenaria viennensis gedreht auf Commons hoch und setze das bereits geladene Bild auf die horizontale Orientierung zurück. Bei letzterem hatte ich aber Schwierigkeiten, das System meldete schon zurückgesetzt, das Bild war weiterhin vertikal. Nach meinem Versuch, den Cache zurückzusetzen, war der Käfer weiterhin nach oben orientiert. Nun möchte ich dich bitten, das vorhandene Bild zurückzusetzen, ich glaube erst dann kann ich das gedrehte Bild hochladen, sonst meldet das System mir, dass das Bild schon vorhanden ist. Ich warte jetzt erstmals auf deinen Kommentar, ob mein Vorhaben im konkreten Fall sinnvoll ist. Eventuell meldet er das gedrehte Bild auch dann noch als vorhanden, dann würde ich es leicht verändert schneiden.

Außerdem habe ich die letzten Beispiele von deinem Bot angesehen. Der arbeitet ja für den Normalfall richtig. Die Frage bleibt, ob er für dies Ausnahmen so geändert werden könnte, dass er unter zwei Namen abspeichert, wenn beide Orientierungen richtig sind. In der Biologie sind eben vorn entspricht oben oder vorn entspricht links beide richtig, aber im Kontext häufig nur eines sinnvoll. Hallo, Ich weiß nicht von welchem Bild du genau sprichst, bzw von welchen Cicindela arenaria viennensis. Aber alles was umstritten ist darf, auch von dir, revertiert werden (einfach die Drehung zurücksetzen). Ich versuche schon über ein Jahr zu erreichen das die Drehfunktion in MediaWiki direkt eingebaut wird, leider steht die Sache bei der Foundation leider eher unten auf der Prioritätsliste. Es funktioniert also derzeit so: Der Nutzer fügt die bitte drehen Vorlage hinzu und das Bot dreht die Datei, dabei wird auch die EXIF Rotation angepasst (also in den Metadaten der Datei) weil MediaWiki sonst die Datei automatisch gedreht anzeigt. In Summe ist es alles recht komplex, Fehler sind ab und an unvermeidlich. Man darf sich aber erwarten, das jener Benutzer welcher die Drehung veranlasst dafür sorgt das es auch passt (wer das war siehst du in der Verbionengeschichte der Datei). Wir müssen also warten bis die Foundation die Funktion direkt in Commons einbaut, das wird aber noch etwas dauern. lg --Steinsplitter (talk) 18:36, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Ich glaube, ich brauche deine Hilfe. Also: ich habe dieses Bild zurückgesetzt und die gedrehte Version hier neu hochgeladen. Dann habe ich das Ergebnis nicht nur in Commons, sondern bei den Verwendungen des Bilds angeschaut. Dabei stellte sich heraus: 1. Bei Verwendung in einer Gallerie war das zurückgesetzte Bild noch in der nicht zurückgesetzten Form abgebildet, etwa hier als 11. Bild. 2. War das Bild als thumb verwendet, war es zwar zurückgedreht, das Hochformat aber beibehalten, das Bild also faktisch gequetscht, etwa hier rechts 3. Bei Verwendung in der Taxobox ebenfalls gepresst hier oder hier. Ich bin extra zu einem anderen Computer, ob es vielleicht am Cache liegt, aber auch dort das gleiche Ergebnis. :c

Eventuell habe ich beim Rücksetzen einen Fehler gemacht, denn ich habe anfangs im Reiter Versionsgeschichte versucht zurückzusetzen (ohne Ergebnis), dann erst habe ich in den Dateiversionen auf der Dateiseite zurückgesetzt, das hat dann auf der Dateiseite auch geklappt. Hallo Steinsplitter, mich beschäftigt weiterhin das Problem, dass unbedacht gedreht wird. Jedenfalls sollte in den Baustein, in dem die Drehung beantragt wird, auf den dann der Bot reagiert, eine Warnung eingebaut werden, etwa: prüfe nach, ob bei den Verwendungen des Bilds in den versdchiedenen Projekten durch das Drehen negativen Effekte entstehen. Falls ja, speichere das gedrehte Bild unter einem anderen Namen. Wo kann ich eine entsprechende Anregung plazieren? Danke. --Siga (talk) 09:22, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

@Siga: Commons ist ein Wiki, wiki ist da um zu verändern und so. Und wenn was nicht passt eben revertieren. Ich sehe dahingehend keine notwenidgkeit da es seit Jahren kaum Probleme gibt. Bitte sprich den User an, welche die Drehung veranlasst hat. Ich kann hier wirklich nicht helfen, sorry. Unnecessary bot edits?

this kind of edit seems a bit pointless, unless the new lines for each category are important for something? As this is how Commonist formats multiple categories for photos uploaded using it, this type of edit by your bot is currently filling up my watchlist! Thanks. @Mike Peel: It is not marked as [minor] here (in case you are going to edit the page file a bug here, need to be fixed upstream), and bot edits can be hidden from the watchlist. Commonist only provides a one line textbox in which to enter categories, so if there's more than one category then they all have to be on one line (see File:Commonist "The Commonist 0.4.28".png - left-hand column, "Categories" input box).

I don't care one way or the other about whether categories are on one line or two, but this was my watchlist with just this morning's edits by your bot, which seems excessive and pointless! Can it be marked as minor on that page? I would do so myself, but your mention of a bug page implies that it would be reverted?

@Mike Peel: Well... if you don't like to hide bot edits - that is a other problem and explains your issue with cleanup bots. May i ask which problems you encountered?
