Nothing about my early life or education, something about my career I worked in the entertainment industry forever -- I still do -- and my expertise is in music, media, and the music industry. I've also worked for early stage music-related internet companies, magazines, and in television. These days, I write. Most of the articles I've worked on are based on personal interest and/or follow a Tourette's-like utterance of "Oh my god, how can (blank) not have a Wikipedia page?" (Marc Geiger, Tom Corson, Julie Holland, Tina Sharkey, Arnold Stiefel, Bryan Kest), or "How can (blank)'s article be so incomplete?" (Jimmy Iovine, Lenny Waronker, Ted Harbert.) On one occasion it was because a friend and a woman I admire -- who should have had a page to begin with -- passed away. (RIP Patti Webster). Another time, it was because Judith Newman challenged all of us to edit an unacceptable submission into acceptability in a New York Times article entitled "What Does Judith Newman Have To Do To Get A Wikipedia Page?". (Judith interviewed me while she was researching a story 10 years ago. I took the challenge personally. Wiki Validation Music industry executives I'm on a mission to expand and create Wikipedia articles on prominent executives and people who've made a significant contribution to the business side of the music industry. My to-do list includes Dan McCarroll (president of Warner Bros. Records), Tom Corson (president of RCA) Done, Angelica Cob-Baehler (artist manager and former label executive), Liz Heller (producer, early internet advocate, and former label exec), Done Jeff Jampol (a manager with clients who fall into "the deader the better" category), Tim Devine (a&r and technology guy) Done, Dennis Dennehy (head of marketing and publicity at Interscope), and Glen Brunman, who has played a powerful role in the world of soundtrack albums. Done I'm also creating stubs when I come across a glaring omission, for example: Russ Thyret, Joe Galante.. Mission: Record labels Articles are dated, unbalanced, and inaccuracy and spin abound. It's making me crazy. Editing errors as I come across them (just made corrections to the Epic Records article), but I'm on a general mission to improve every label article that I can. I'm working on 4AD, RCA Records Done and Interscope Records first. What I'm doing at Articles for Creation I used to focus on articles related to music and the media. But since there's almost always a severe backlog at AfC, I now review articles about any subject I'm relatively informed about. (I stay away from academics, articles related to science, visual artists, athletes, and others.) If you have any questions about an article I've reviewed, or need any help, please leave a message on my talk page, and I'll do my best to help. Articles I'm working on, want to improve, or want to begin
COI and Connected Contributor I've created an alternative account to use for any work I do a a paid editor: JSFarman2. (I used this account previously -- I've noted any COI edits appropriately.) The music industry is small -- I tend to have met many of the people that I've written about, which hasn't dissuaded me from writing articles about them. There are some pretty notable omissions. I make sure my articles are neutral, verifiable, and referenced, and I put everything with a COI through AfC. If I have a lapse in judgement, there's always been a willing Wikipedian around to trout me. I welcome suggestions and edits. Every article I've ever worked on (COI or not) has been improved by other editors. Areas of expertise
