Tip: Categorizing images
Hello, Cirdan!
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
- [[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
- [[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
- [[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Hallo Cirdan, vielen Dank für die Idee zum Projekt Wiki loves Monuments Mittelhessen, die Organisation und die Umsetzung vor Ort. Nicht zuletzt hast Du Dich ja trotz des Organisierens auch noch selbst beteiligt und viele Bilder Deiner Heimat geschossen. Es war schön, dabei gewesen zu sein, ich habe das Projekt (bis auf winzige extern induzierte Störungen) sehr genossen. - Oh, danke für das Lob und danke für den Hinweis! Ich arbeite ab und an routinemäßig die Bilder durch, die zwar in den WLM-Landeskategorien sind, aber die WLM-Vorlage nicht drin haben und schaue gar nicht so sehr auf den Inhalt. Ich habe jetzt die WLMMH-Vorlage so angepasst, dass man sie auch für nicht-WLM-Bilder verwenden kann, indem man nm (no monument) mitgibt, aber die Sonnenuhr hatte ich vergessen wieder zurückzubauen.--Cirdan (talk) 11:19, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Wohin mit hessischen Kulturdenkmälern ohne ID?
Hallo Cirdan! Schön zu sehen, dass Eure Aktion so erfolgreich war; ich gratuliere und danke Dir für Dein Engagement. Ist die Denkmaltopographie wohlbehalten bei Dir angekommen? Hier landen meine Fotos, denen ich die hessische Vorlage für Kulturdenkmäler in die Bildbeschreibung gesetzt habe, aber mit der ID "unbekannt". Das ist womöglich nicht im Sinne des Erfinders. Macht eine Kategorie "Cultural_heritage_monuments_in_Hesse_with_unknown_ID" oder "Cultural_heritage_monuments_in_Hesse_without_ID" Sinn? - Ja, die Topographie ist angekommen, ich sende sie dir zurück, wenn wir für die von uns fotografierten Orte Listen angelegt haben, also irgendwann im Laufe der nächsten Woche.

Wäre das etwas, das ich durch Bildbearbeitung lösen könnte?

Vielleicht. Die Bildqualität ist grundsätzlich gar nicht schlecht. Sollte z.b. mit Lightroom oder Hugin machbar sein, das Bild so zu drehen/kippen dass es wie eine Frontalaufnahme wirkt (d.h. die waagrechten Linien waagrecht und die senkrechten Linien senkrecht sind). Allerdings benötigt das Bild dann einen neuen Crop und Randbereiche fallen weg. Ist klar was ich meine? Gruß -- Norbert Nagel (talk) 19:49, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Ich bin ein ziemlicher Fotoanfänger und habe sehr überraschend mit ausgerechnet diesem Bild, das ich nie für etwas besonderes gehalten habe, einen Preis bei Wiki Loves Monuments gewonnen. Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

- Ich kenne mich leider nicht wirklich aus, ich war nur vor anderthalb Jahren einmal mit de:WP:WLMMH für ein Stündchen dort (zusammen mit Geiserich, von dem die anderen Fotos jeweils stammen). Allerdings habe ich die Denkmaltopographie vor mir liegen und wenn man genau schaut, sieht man auch, dass es unterschiedliche Häuser/Hofanlagen sind: Bei der Nr. 1 ist auch die eine Traufseite versch(i/a)ndelt, bei Nr. 5 hingegen nicht. Die beiden ähneln sich allerdings sehr und eventuell sind auch einzelne Bilder falsch benannt/sortiert.--Cirdan (talk) 20:39, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 startet in Kürze
Hallo Cirdan,
in Kürze ist es wieder soweit. Der nun schon traditionelle Fotowettbewerb Wiki Loves Monuments wird im September zum vierten Mal stattfinden. In ähnlicher Form hatte unlängst der Wettbewerb "Wiki Loves Earth" eine erfolgreiche Premiere. Zu allen bisherigen vier Wettbewerben haben seit 2011 gut 3000 unterschiedliche Teilnehmer (User) ihren Beitrag geleistet. Du warst dabei, und bist auch herzlich eingeladen, am bevorstehenden WLM-Wettbewerb wieder dabei zu sein.
Allein in Deutschland wurden in den letzten drei Jahren im Rahmen von WLM rund 100.000 Fotos zu den insgesamt ca. 850.000 Kulturdenkmalen bundesweit hochgeladen. Jährlich haben sich mehrere Hundert Wiki-Fotographen daran beteiligt. Auch im kommenden Denkmalmonat wird dies gewiss wieder der Fall sein. Der Tag des offenen Denkmals am 14. September bietet bundesweit vielfältige Möglichkeiten, Denkmale nicht nur von außen, sondern auch von innen zu fotografieren. Denkmallisten sind dabei ein wichtiger Orientierungspunkt und zugleich auch Ziel der Einbindung der Fotos. Auch in diesem Jahr sind wieder neue Denkmallisten hinzugekommen, die hilfreich bei der Planung von individuellen oder Gruppen-Fototouren sind und auf eine Bebilderung warten, wie z.B. zu Görlitz oder Zittau. Unter den Landeshauptstädten fehlt nur noch Stuttgart. Aber auch hier ist Licht in Sicht.
In der Mitte Deutschlands hat die Denkmallandschaft der thüringischen Landeshauptstadt Erfurt nun das Licht der Wikipedia-Welt entdeckt. Mehr als 50 Tabellen enthalten 3.700 Denkmale. Allein die wunderschön restaurierte Altstadt umfasst 1.800 Denkmale. Eine von WMDE geförderte WLM-Fototour nach Erfurt am Wochenende vom 29. – 31. August lädt herzlich ein, diese einzigartige Kulturlandschaft zu dokumentieren. Mehr Informationen findest Du auf der Projektseite.

Daher eine Bitte zur Verbesserung bei Commons: Könntest Du eine vergleichbare Vorlage auch für Brandenburg basteln? Dort wird übrigens ebenfalls mit amtlichen Objektnummern gearbeitet. Gruß --J.-H.
