EinsFestival is a digital television channel from the German broadcaster ARD, available as part of the ARD digital package of channels. It launched on 30 August 1997.

EinsFestival is available on satellite and cable in Germany, and in some regions by digital terrestrial. The service is also available via the Zattoo Internet television service in Germany only.

Programming

EinsFestival programming includes documentaries, magazine programmes, films and music (rock and classical). Most of the programmes have already been broadcasted by other public stations that belong to the ARD.

Since the 2004 Summer Olympics ARD and ZDF use their digital television channels to broadcast additional content about sport events like the Olympic Games or the UEFA Euro. For example, at the UEFA Euro 2008 they used the digital channels to broadcast different football matches taken place at the same time.

The management since October 2005 of EinsFestival lies with the ARD regional broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), based in Cologne.

EinsFestival HD

From 21 to 24 March 2008, EinsFestival began high-definition test broadcasts via satellite and digital cable (Kabel BW). The first HD programme was the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin. From 22 December 2008 to 1 January 2009, EinsFestival again broadcast a high-definition test programme.

EinsFestival HD can be received via DVB-S on Astra 1KR, 12.4215H 27500 3/4 and is broadcast in 720p50.
