Mohummud Siddick Chady (born in 1951), most commonly known as Siddick Chady is a Mauritian physician, politician, and former minister.[1]
Early life, education & career
Chady grew up in Rose Hill and travelled to Europe to study medicine. His family owned a number of businesses including Cinema ABC, and Blockbuster Video Network (BVN).[2][3]
Personal life
Siddick Chady was a devout Muslim who had carried out various pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia. He was known for his generous nature, often helping the community and giving away as much as he could. He had a close friendship with MBC TV presenter Shameem Peerally, who had been by his side for years, dating back to their school days.
Political career
Born in 1951 in Rose-Hill, Siddick Chady began his career as a physician before turning to politics in 1991. He ran for elections in Constituency No. 19 (Stanley/Rose-Hill) under the banner of the Labour Party/PMSD Alliance. Although he was defeated, he was appointed to the National Assembly as a Best Loser.
In 1995, Siddick Chady was elected in the same constituency with the Labour Party/MMM alliance and served as Minister of Environment until 2000. In the 2000 general elections, he ran in Constituency No. 3 under the Labour Party-PMXD alliance.[1]
Death
Siddick Chady, former Minister of Public Works and Environment of the Labour Party, passed away on Sunday 24th of June 2024 evening at the age of 73 at the Artémis Clinic in Curepipe.[2]
