The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) seeks to promote, advance and is the national governing body for taekwondo in the Philippines. The sports body is a member of the World Taekwondo Federation and Philippine Olympic Committee. The PTA was established in 1976.[1][2] The PTA connects various taekwondo associations and acts as the governing body for representation to international taekwondo competition and conducts taekwondo belt promotion exams and instructor seminars.

On June 5, 2018, Former President Rodrigo Duterte and Former Senator Bong Go received an honorary blackbelt titles at the World Taekwondo Headquarters, also known as Kukkiwon.[3][4]

Controversies

Persona Non Grata

On September 21, 2020, the Two-time Olympian Donald Geisler was expelled from the association amid an ongoing legal battle against the Philippine Taekwondo Association.[5][6][7]

School Bullying

On December 19, 2018, an Ateneo de Manila University junior high school student, Joaquin Montes banned from the university and Philippine Taekwondo Association due to Ateneo bullying incident.[8][9]
