Joaquim José Miranda Sarmento (born 7 August 1978) is a Portuguese university professor, economist and politician. He has been Minister of Finance since 2024, in the XXIV Constitutional Government, led by Luís Montenegro.[1]

He served as a member of the Assembly of the Republic and president of the Social Democratic Party parliamentary group. He was president of the National Strategic Council under Rui Rio and coordinated Luís Montenegro's strategy motion in his candidacy for leadership of the Social Democratic Party in 2022.[2][3]

He was a former economic advisor to the former President of the Portuguese Republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, he was a consultant at UTAO (Technical Budget Support Unit) and worked for around ten years at the Ministry of Finance.[4][5]

In 2022, he was elected president of the PSD Parliamentary Group in the 15th Legislature.[6][7] In 2024, he would be named Minister of State and of Finance in Luís Montenegro's government.[8]
