James Allan Stewart Evans (March 24, 1931 – November 15, 2023) was a Canadian historian and professor emeritus of classical Near Eastern and religious studies.
Biography
- From 1955 to 1960 he was assistant professor of Classics at the University of Western Ontario and Waterloo College, London.
- From 1960 to 1961 he was Visiting special lecturer in Classics at the University of Toronto.
- From 1961 to 1962 he was assistant professor of classics at the University of Texas at Austin.
- From 1962 to 1971 he was professor of history at the McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
- From 1972 to 1995 he was professor of classics at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and became professor emeritus.[1]
- From 1992 Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.[2]
- From 1998 he was visiting faculty, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia[3]
- From 1997 he was visiting professor of history, University of Washington, Seattle[4]
- From 1998 to 1999 he was Whitehead Visiting Professor, American School of Classical Studies, Athens[5]
- Evans died in November 15, 2023, at the age of 92.[6]
