Summary
DescriptionWgn radio studio.JPG |
English: Postcard photo of the old main studio of WGN radio in Tribune Tower which was able to accommodate a large radio audience. |
Date |
From the look of the studio and a comparison of it to other major broadcasting operations' studios, clothing fashion, and orchestra instrumentation, it is most likely circa 1930s to early 1940s. After television began, there was no need for large radio studios like this that would seat 600 people, as described on the back of the card. They were either converted into studios for television broadcasts or broken up into smaller radio studios for radio broadcasting use without capacity for audiences. The large WMAQ radio studios of the 1930s and 1940s all became television studios, as an example. WMAQ Studio A-radio days WMAQ Studio A-television--as the television station moved in 1989
