This diagram was meant to help explore the possible arrangements of electrons in the plum pudding model of the atom. It depicts four magnetized needles floating in water with a magnet above them. The needles are oriented such that they repel each other, and they are attracted to the magnet. The equilibrium arrangement they adopt would have been analogous to the arrangement of electrons in the plum pudding model. |
