English: Illustration in the Durán Codex, a 16th-century Mexican manuscript by Spanish friar Diego Durán, depicting the moment Nezahualpilli, tlatoani of Texcoco, warned emperor Moctezuma Ii of the Mexica Empire about the destruction of the empire.
According to legend, shortly before Mexico fell into Spanish control, a series of unusual events occurred during the reign of Moctezuma II which were interpreted as omens warning of the destruction of the empire. Según la leyenda, poco antes de que México cayera bajo control español, una serie de eventos inusuales ocurrieron durante el reinado de Moctezuma II que fueron interpretados como presagios advirtiendo la destrucción el imperio. Según algunas fuentes, Nezahualpilli fue una de las primeras personas en notar y advertir a Moctezuma sobre estos presagios. |
