Description |
"The 'Dependence' Party." Political cartoon from the 1908 Presidential campaign, first published in Watson's Jeffersonian Magazine, organ of the People's Party, who ran a rival candidate in the race. The cartoon shows millionaire newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst, financial angel of the fledgling Independence Party, holding the puppet strings of a marionette labeled "INDEPENDENCE PARTY /// COPYRIGHT BY W.R. HEARST." The puppet hyperbolically asserts, "Here we have a Jefferson and a Lincoln combined." |
