Summary
DescriptionCliffs at the Naze - geograph.org.uk - 1187867.jpg |
English: Cliffs at the Naze The cliffs at the Naze are a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest. They vary in height from about 3m up to 20m plus and are constantly slumping and eroding. This is due to Red Crag and Tertiary and Quaternary sediments overlaying much older London Clay.
Due to the difference in their consistency and age these erode at different rates and reveal many different sorts of fossil. The site is renowned for its early bird fossils, hence its SSSI designation. A small agricultural land drain can be seen at the bottom of the uppermost red horizon. |
