Retired?

Can this be true? Very sorry if so, but maybe a bit of a rest will see you willing to return. Cheers, Johnbod (talk) 17:31, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. Please do come back! Eddie891 Talk Work 00:42, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If it's official this time, then you will be missed. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:06, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Very sorry to see you go. You've done some remarkable work and The World Contest was an amazing achievement. Hope you come back some time. The Drover's Wife (talk) 21:53, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. This is most unfortunate. I hope to see you back sometime, though I understand the need for a break, Lord knows. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:24, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if this disappearance (I didn't count, but remember a time when I maintained your DYK records, Dr. Blofeld) has to do with my response on the talk of St. Lubentius, Dietkirchen? I hope not. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:33, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

R-Retired? Blofeld? What...? This doesn't bode well. I hope it isn't permanent. –Vami_IV✠ 23:03, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. B. you are an icon around here. You were the first to tally up more than 1,500 articles for DYK, and then you initiated and ran the enormously successful World Contests. We need you to stay as the face of Wikipedia! Yoninah (talk) 00:09, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Adding my voice to this. Hope you're reading this to see the voices clamouring for your return. I'm not sure what may have prompted your sudden retirement, but whatever it is, these things come and go on Wikipedia usually. Things happen that seem to make no sense, and we lose faith for a while, but ultimately what we're doing is so beneficial that it's worth sticking around for. And your contests like the Africa destubathon went over and beyond that, because they were catalysts for much larger numbers of editors to dive in and improve vital vital areas of the site. I very much hope we'll see you back to continue that good work.  — Amakuru (talk) 22:47, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Shocked to here about the retirement! No notice. No farewell. What impression it will have on those newcomers who are enthusiastic to make their contributions. You have to come back.... else discouraging us all.  MehrajMir (talk) 15:06, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What impact it will have is irrelevant. We must continue our work. –Vami_IV✠ 14:34, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rtd

Sorry to see it Doc - and I hope it will turn into a break, rather than full retirement. I know how you feel though; there seems to be a fair amount of grudge-bearing and pettiness, and a lack of focus on actually building an encyclopaedia. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 19:36, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Retired!

"No. That's not True! That's impossible!" Yeh nahi ho sakta! First Jaguar, now your good self! But I know why you chose this decision and I knew it took a toll on all of us, you most of all. As SchroCat mentioned, I hope it turns out to be a wikibreak as no one deserves it more. If thats so, then please come back soon. I will always cherish the endeavours on which we collaborated together (like Rod Steiger, for instance). It was indeed an honour and a privilege to have known you, Dr. Blofeld.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:02, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: Please don't link to bootleg YouTube uploads of film clips. The quote is recognizable enough by itself, anyway.
And Dr. Blofeld -- shit, that is a loss for the project ... Hope to see you back some day!

Happy St. David's Day

This is beyond belief. If ever you have considered coming out of retirement, this surely has thrown a very heavy spanner into that kettle of fish.
Keep safe, my friend! ‑ ‑ Gareth Griffith‑Jones The Welsh Buzzard ‑ ‑ 11:16, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou Gareth and others above, yes, Yes, exactly. Wikipedians like Fram have a great talent for pushing people further away from here. Rather than quietly try to contact me and ask it turns into a "how the person who created the most articles turned out to be the worst serial copyvio creator of all time" type storm. I'm not going to waste why time on that lot, I've contacted somebody offwiki who will deal with the (extremely small) issue from over 10 years ago. Goodbye. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:23, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all. Instead of commiserating why don't we get together to do something about this? I would suggest we form a group - call it "AfD" (Action for Fram's De-sysop) Special:Permalink/828579299#We lost a good administrator in Ymblanter because of Fram. 92.8.223.244 (talk) 15:31, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fram also didn't win my appreciation by indef block of Martin who was away for so long that people (including me) feared for his return. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:46, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fram's playing with fire if he thinks I'm the type he can abuse like the others. Anything he gathers on me will be returned with interest, mark my words. Stop being a shithead Fram and move on and I'll do the same, you know you've been far from perfect too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:48, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fram has placed a copyvio template on the above article, and it is now listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2018 March 5. Please refer to the instructions already sent to you regarding potential actions you could take to help resolve this issue. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 22:24, 5 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You do know that an acquaintance involved with Tibetan research was a friend of Elisabeth Booz and that she knows about the Wikipedia work? Should it have been OTRS ticketed? It was a very long time ago now. I wouldn't have used that book freely if I hadn't have thought it was legitimate to use.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:56, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fram

Comment.. Fram has done a lot of work here since 2005 and is usually right about people making mistakes, but has a long history of using his admin tools to gain leverage in disputes and threaten people with blocking. A lot of people dislike him and would want to see him desysopped. I personally don't think he has the social skills to be an administrator and would support a desysop in practice, but I'm not sure even if he was stripped of his tools he'd stop what he does, he doesn't need admin tools to bully other editors, if anything it might antagonize him into becoming even more difficult. But Fram knows that there's plenty of people who could file a compelling arb case against him at any point soon which would get a lot of support and succeed in him being stripped of his admin tools or worse. There's surely enough convincing evidence of misconduct over many years.

I think beneath the facade Fram you don't like feeling stressed, the gigantic walls of text at the current arb case and your erratic comments yesterday are a dead give away. I always mirror how I'm treated, if you don't want to feel that way, look at how you approach me personally and ask yourself if you'd like to be treated the same way? You obviously enjoy Belgian comics and find them relaxing, great. I have my music. I would prefer to have a peaceful life and to try to enjoy it while it lasts, it's passing very quickly and I've spent far too much time on here. It's great that you want to help Wikipedia and build the highest quality encyclopedia, but why can't you work with people at resolving problems instead of playing the tough cop. And it's not as if you're entirely unreasonable, at times you could be almost decent and constructive when there was a bit of mutual respect shown and you cooperate with others instead of being hostile. I just ask you to take a step back and to look at yourself and ask yourself why at times you approach things the way you do. If you are genuinely concerned about my articles, you're free to work with me and I'll try to resolve issues from the dark ages if people are that worried, time-permitting as I'm serious about retiring from here as evidenced by my decline in editing. I was also serious about deleting all of the micro stubs, at the time it felt like the right approach to try to make the site as diverse as possible, but if I was to stick around I'm more interested in cleaning it fully up and building core content, the stuff which really matters and currently lacking. Just not going to leave here like this and have you treat me like the others in my absence and try to expose me as something I'm not.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:53, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
