This edit changes the "X" page of the "Legion of Honour" recipients as follows: 1) Trials out the new format for the "Legion of Honour" medal information, i.e. a structured "table" format, instead of a random incoherent and chaotic "text-based list" format; 2) Adds inline citations to evidence each entry's data; 3) Populates each data category for every entry with information in a standard format.

Revision as of 10:37, 20 July 2021

The following is a non-exhaustive list of recipients of the Légion d'honneur awards, since the first ceremony in 1803. The number of total recipients is estimated to be close to one million, including over 3,000 Grand Cross recipients.[1]

The French government gives out these awards based on a recipient's exemplary services rendered to France, or to the causes supported by France, whether they be French[2] or foreign[3] nationals. This award is divided into five distinct ranks: Knight, Officer, Commander, Grand Officer and Grand Cross. Commander is the highest civilian category for a non-French citizen, and requires a minimum of five years in the Officer rank. The Grand Officer and the Grand Cross are awarded only to French citizens.[4]
