Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy is a fictional anchorman portrayed by Will Ferrell in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie and an upcoming sequel.

Ron Burgundy is an Emmy (local) Award-winning anchorman in San Diego, California for KVWN and leader of the KVWN Channel Four News Team, the number-one news team in San Diego. Despite being popular around the city, Burgundy is egotistical and not very intelligent.

Burgundy has a bitter rivalry with Wes Mantooth (Vince Vaughn), leader of the KQHS Channel Nine Evening News Team, who has been in second place behind Burgundy and KVWN Channel Four News.

When Ron's boss, Ed (Fred Willard), brings in Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), who believes they needs more diversity on the team and a woman whom Burgundy met the night before at a party, Burgundy soon finds himself in love with her, despite the fact that his team, with the exception of Brick, are mad that Ed let a woman to be part of the news team. Ron invites Veronica out to show her the town and after revealing his skills as an expert jazz flautist, Veronica falls for him..

One day, Ron is late for work when a biker (Jack Black) kicks Ron's dog, Baxter, off a bridge because Ron throws a burrito at him. Veronica takes over and reads the news. Ron arrives in the building too late, just after the bulletin ends. With high ratings after Veronica's performance, Veronica is installed as Ron's co-anchor. With Veronica delivering the news the night before and her becoming the first anchorwoman, this bends her relationship with Ron.

When Ron and his other friends try to get rid of her, Veronica learns that Ron would actually read everything on the news monitor. One night, she changes Ron's signature quote, "Stay classy, San Diego", to "Go fuck yourself, San Diego". Not knowing what he just said, Ed shows Burgundy what he has said. They figure out that Veronica put it on the monitor. The incident costs Burgundy his job and his loyalty to the citizens of San Diego. Veronica then takes over leading the team.

When a mother panda is about to give birth, a rival anchorman pushes Veronica over into a bear den. Unable to find Veronica, Ed calls a bar where Ron was at, trying to find the anchorman. Ron answers it and decides to do the live news spot. When calling his news team, who stood by him the whole time, he convinces them to go to the zoo to deliver the news.

When at the zoo, Ron tries to save Veronica, not realizing the bears were bigger from where he was. After Baxter comes back from being kicked off the bridge, he saves Ron and Veronica after telling one of the bears that he became a friend to its cousin. While Burgundy is climbing out of the den, Mantooth tries to push him off the ladder. However, he does not say he respects him as a newsanchor.

In the end, Ron and Veronica co-anchor for the first worldwide anchor show.
