Street, known asChrist Church, the oldest house of worship in Cambridge, and representing theoldest, with a single exception, of the thirty or more parochial organizations in thatcity, though withdrawn a few paces from the highway, stands a conspicuous andwell-remembered object. How much of the interest which it awakens is due tothe associations of antiquity, and how much to architectural attractiveness, itwould be difficult to say. The representative of a school of architecture of whichbut few examples have been seen in this country, and exhibiting a striking con-trast, alike to the bald crudities of the New England meeting-house, and thesecond-hand glories of the modern gothic, it has united the commendations ofcritics both of the past and present generation.
