Comment: beautiful scene, but there are a few technical issues: the sky is a bit noisy and has a couple of dust spots, while the whole image is very tilted to the right. Would support if these are corrected. --The Cosmonaut (talk) 16:50, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Comment There is also a halo effect around the tree. --C messier (talk) 18:08, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- @The Cosmonaut and C messier: I've fixed the tilt and a bit of noise but halo left me confused — maybe I'm stupid or it's my colour blidnness kicking in, but I don't see any. Красный wanna talk? 19:33, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- The parts of the image around and especially below (between the foliage and the ground) the tree are unnaturally bright. --C messier (talk) 21:21, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
Suggested version @Красный, The Cosmonaut, and C messier: Dear reviewers, I have reduced the slight halo in the treetop and then adjusted the overall tonal correction accordingly. If you like the result, you can use this edit for an update. Please see the SwissTransfer link. While editing, I realized that the glow in the treetop might have been due to some overly well-intentioned post-processing. But that's just my guess. Best regards, -- Radomianin (talk) 21:24, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Looks good for me, but I'm still not sure about the halo. I just don't see it. Красный wanna talk? 21:38, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- I think the halo mentioned by our fellow photographer C messier refers to the glow of the treetop that I removed in my suggestion. This can be clearly seen in a direct comparison of the two versions. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 21:50, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- The sky looks better, but the houses are still leaning to the right. --The Cosmonaut (talk) 02:27, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

Comment I'm not convinced we should have this nice image as an FP as the clock face was recently restored and looks very different. I other words, it's one of many versions but not a particularly notable one. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:37, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Comment For a perfect encyclopedia, we should ideally have one FP of every version of the clock face on such a notable building. What a great timeline that would make for the article. This excellent photo is a good start. --Cart (talk) 12:33, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Oppose The light is not so good, for "one of the best pictures of the site". Hazy. The shadows are too dominant in the mountains, especially at the left. Harsh light. It's almost a contrejour, since the shadows seem to be leaning in our direction. Incidentally lack of sharpness in the corners -- Basile Morin (talk) 02:38, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Basile Morin: Thanks for your comments. I have tweaked the exposure and shadows, plus mild sharpening. Is it better? Note that the direction is to the south, the sun is shining out of the top left corner. At high altitude, lighting tends to be harsh owing to the clear air. Tagooty (talk) 03:16, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

- Wilfredor, rules like that are only added when there is a general problem with many users misusing the site in some way. In this case, ArionStar is the only one with this pattern of quick withdrawals and adding new noms. We can't make a rule just because one person will not follow the general praxis. In this case a sharp reminder should be enough. If that doesn't work, a temporary block could be recommended to let them cool down and give the community some time off from these rapid-fire nominations. --Cart (talk) 08:22, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

- An FP is an extraordinary image with wow-factor. This image does not have an unusual pose/activity/colouration/etc that catches my attention. It merits QI and VI. --Tagooty (talk) 08:44, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- You might have to oppose many bird more bird FPs, Tagooty, if you don't like little brown birds and females. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:47, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Charlesjsharp: An FP is one "of the finest on Commons". The violet-backed starling is common throughout Africa. Your FP of the strikingly-coloured male has set a high bar. An unexceptional image of a drab female does not cross the bar IMO. I would support an unusual image of a plain brown bird, or an image of a rare brown bird. --Tagooty (talk) 02:57, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I agree the setting is not exceptional. Perhaps the FP bar should be raised; as long as there is consensus. We are promoting dozens of unexeptional small brown birds standing on brown earth or sand these days. Thinking about consistency, what do you think about the recent nominations of the white butterfly and brown locust? Neither are rare species. Charlesjsharp (talk) 10:06, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- I feel that the FP bars for many subjects are getting lower over the past 2-3 years. I wonder how many reviewers compare with FPs in the gallery before voting? Perhaps, its just that I'm getting older and more critical!

Oppose Sorry infortunate crop, we can't see the whole fish. This black thing is disturbing, also the sharpness is not so good.El Golli Mohamed (talk) 21:11, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- I have applied a slight crop to the right bottom corner, so that what I believe is a feather star (black thing), is not on the way. Even if that could be an improvement, I don't see what is wrong with the crop, morays live in holes and rarely go out during the day as they are nocturnal predators. I also have to say that this animal is rare, and probably that's the reason why we have no FPs of the whole genus. That conditions to take pictures under water are more challenging than over the water is something that I don't need to elaborate, I guess. --Poco a poco (talk) 10:31, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
Support The whole moray would be be too big to fit in the image, so I will assume the author meant to only picture its head. The crop is fine. The black thing is
mildlynot distracting. The bottom of the moray where it turns is a bit blurry, probably OoF. Take my opinion with a grain of salt, as I am not a professional photographer. --Zzzs (talk) 22:49, 22 June 2024 (UTC)- Nothing is big to fit in an image. We managed to photograph galaxy clusters in a single photo. El Golli Mohamed (talk) 22:56, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Here's a full body image of this species for comparison. Also, isn't it pretty clear the author only wanted to picture its head? --Zzzs (talk) 23:00, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Comment The crop is good and intentional; hope this is not an FPC revenge vote. Charlesjsharp (talk) 23:09, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- I have little doubt after reading the same words I used "Infortunate (sic) crop" in my review. That's an statement that doesn't speak for the reviewer. Again, we have no FP of the genus Echidna, but we have already 4 FPs of the species (not genus) Himantopus himantopus. I've definitely supported more images that I've opposed of El Golli Mohamed, so I have no personal issue here and no problem with the photographer, let alone free-license photographers. If I'm convinced, I support the image if not, I oppose, that has nothing to do with whom is behind the camera and in most of the cases people believe that and are thankful for the feedback. Poco a poco (talk) 10:31, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Why don't we have the right to criticize, otherwise it's a revenge vote? Is it a dictatorship here? Is the justification for my vote true or not? El Golli Mohamed (talk) 23:23, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Of course anyone may criticise and oppose; that is the essence of FPC. But El Golli Mohamed was banned from Commons in April for two weeks for insulting behaviour stemming from his revenge votes. Charlesjsharp (talk) 00:14, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Dear reviewers, normally I am not a fan of repeating old mistakes, but regarding the incident mentioned here again, I would like to refer to the recent discussion from late May/early June. I agree with Poco a poco that we should please focus only on the images and not on the photographer behind the camera. Only through constructive discourse can we work together in a meaningful and healthy way. Behind every username there is a person who has to be respected, no matter if we have a different opinion or not. Best, -- Radomianin (talk) 09:08, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

Info This artwork was made by Giacomo Raibolini, aka Giacomo Francia. He was the son of the more famous artist Francesco Francia, well known as a goldsmith and painter and a close friend of Raphael. This is an author belonging to the mannerism of the late Italian Renaissance. The exact date of the painting is not known, but it can be attributed between 1520 and 1540, when it was influenced by the painter Dosso Dossi, another mannerist tending towards the Venetian Renaissance. This picture is important because shows a Mannerism offspring from the Italian Renaissance. It is worth noting the resemblance of the Saint Sebastian depicted with his [father] to whom he was extremely devoted. The artwork was imported from Google Arts and Culture stitching 7880 tiles. Oppose Sorry, but I can't see anything special in the photo, sharpness not good. -- Karelj (talk) 13:28, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- You don't see anything special in the photo is your own opinion but what do you mean by sharpness not good? The head of the bird is very sharp and even the breast has an acceptable sharpness. It's an aperture of 5.6 so the body is less sharp than the head. Moreover it's a very sharp prime lens. El Golli Mohamed (talk) 18:07, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- Sharpness of the head is very good. Perhaps he means depth of field is not good? Might F8 with a higher ISO have worked better? I wonder if the image is tilted; there's no point of reference but the finch looks as if it might fall over! Charlesjsharp (talk) 21:03, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- I can't understand why all the bird must be in focus. This is not the style of wildlife photography. The image is not tilted at all, the bird is hopping up this rock in this position. El Golli Mohamed (talk) 23:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
- The style of many wildlife photographers is to try to get as much as possible in focus. Charlesjsharp (talk) 15:29, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

- For which, Frank? The 'authoritative' "This is not the style of wildlife photography", or the reasonable assumption: "The style of many wildlife photographers is to try to get as much as possible in focus". Many just means a large number, such as, say 25,000. You have 25,000,000 wildlife photographers in the USA, so I am guessing, I admit, that 1 in 1000 tries to get as much as possible in focus.

It seems that this butterfly shows colour-variation, possibly seasonal. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:11, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Comment I'm not convinced we should have this nice image as an FP as the clock face was recently restored and looks very different. I other words, it's one of many versions but not a particularly notable one. Charlesjsharp (talk) 14:37, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Oppose The striking male violet-backed starling is already an FP. I don't think the plain female merits FP. --Tagooty (talk) 06:07, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Tagooty Why wouldn't it? It would be fair if the other gender is a FP, like many others. Zzzs (talk) 08:11, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

If I were trying to imrprove this arrangement, a little higher camera perspective and gathering the ingredients more tightly together would let you move in tighter and strengthen the impact. --GRDN711 (talk) 12:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
