The Munekata Sisters (宗方姉妹, Munekata shimai) is a 1950 Japanese drama film directed by Yasujirō Ozu and starring Kinuyo Tanaka and Hideko Takamine.[1][2][3] It is based on a novel by Jirō Osaragi.[2][3]

Synopsis

Setsuko is unhappily married to Mimura, an engineer with no job and a bad drinking habit. She supports Mimura and herself by running a bar in Tokyo, where her younger sister Mariko is also working. Setsuko had always been in love with Hiroshi, but both of them failed to propose when Hiroshi left for France a few years ago. Now he is back and Mariko tries to reunite them. Mariko too is secretly in love with Hiroshi.
