Summary

Description

Coreopsis tinctoria cultivar Uptick Cream and Red (a Burgundy red) with several additional buds; together showing four stages of inflorescence. This cultivar has a significantly lighter yellow than most other cultivars. In order of development this photo shows:

1) Several unopened green buds: capitulum buds in which then florets are still enclosed by the phyllaries (bracts)
2) Two slightly opening buds with some yellow ligulate florets protruding
3) One mature radiate flower showing by tubular/disc (in the middle) and ligulate/ray (at the edge) florets
4) two immature infructescences with developing achenes (fruits) surrounded by now spreading phyllaries; the corollas of the ligulate flowers have gone, but there may be withered parts of florets present (IE, the flowers have died and seeds are starting to form)
