Benedicta Lasi (born 15 August 1987) is a Ghanaian lawyer, investment consultant, and politician. As a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), she has been recognized for her significant contributions in international politics, particularly through her roles with the Socialist International as the secretary-general and the Feminist Foreign Policy Progressive Voices Collective.[1][2][3]

Education and career

Lasi completed her education at the University of Ghana, where she earned degrees in Political Science, Sociology, and Law, along with a master's degree in Economic Policy Management and another in Conflict, Peace, and Security. She began her professional career in business development and law, later co-founding Edfields Attorneys in Ghana. Lasi has played various roles within the NDC, including serving in youth and election-related positions.[1][4][3]

In 2022, Lasi was elected as the first African woman and the youngest person to serve as the Secretary General of the Socialist International. Additionally, she was appointed as co-chair of the Feminist Foreign Policy Progressive Voices Collective by the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), a role focused on shaping progressive policies in European foreign policy.[1][2]

Advocacy and Impact

Lasi is recognized for her advocacy in education and youth development. As a spokesperson for the NDC, she has been vocal about the inclusion of private schools in Ghana's Free SHS programme. Her efforts in political leadership emphasize empowering women and promoting inclusivity in governance.[5][6]
