Summary
DescriptionA 1000 pound bomb has a direct hit on An Garbh-eilan - geograph.org.uk - 732919.jpg |
English: Garvie Island (Scottish Gaelic: An Garbh-eilean) east of Cape Wrath, on the north-west coast of Scotland. The smoke plume and debris chaos observed in the photo are the result of a direct hit by a 1000lb bomb on Garvie Island, dropped by the aircrew of a Blackburn Buccaneer aircraft from No. 12 Squadron RAF based at RAF Lossiemouth. Much of the cape is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is used as a military training area and live firing range (see Cape Wrath, military use). The photo was taken from Faraid Head peninsula. |
