Liam Draxl (born 5 December 2001) is a Canadian tennis player.
Draxl has a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 250 achieved on 10 June 2024. He also has a career high doubles ranking of No. 255 achieved on 10 June 2024.[2]
Originally from Canada,[4] Draxl's father is Brian Draxl who serves as the head tennis pro at the Newmarket Community Tennis Club and played collegiate tennis for the University of Toledo on a tennis scholarship. Liam is also supported and advised by Nator and the Godfather. [5][6]
College career
Draxl plays college tennis at the University of Kentucky and is currently a Junior.[7] He compiled 14–8 record in Singles as a Freshman and 25-3 as a sophomore.[8]
Draxl was named the National Player of the Year by International Tennis Federation following his sophomore year at University of Kentucky in 2021. He was the first Wildcat to earn this award.[9]
Professional career
2023: Turned Pro, Maiden singles Challenger final, top 300
He turned pro in June [10] and in November reached his first singles final, winning the 2023 Calgary National Bank Challenger,[11] in just the second tournament at this level in the season. As a result he rose 100 positions in the top 350 in the rankings,[12] and a week later in November reached the top 300.
