When I look at the map for Orange County, California, I see Orange County in red, the rest of California in white, and the neighboring states in fawn, with their borders shown. It's very possible! It's probably not very convenient to do on mobile, but if you find one that isn't correct you can go to the associated template page and replace the image linked at map_image = image.svg with a more appropriate county map.

Thanks for the example. It's the same issue as in #Infobox probelem. commons:User:David Benbennick uploaded a lot of SVG files with US county maps in 2006. They rendered correctly previously but not now. Many articles are still showing cached versions which render correctly but if they have to be generated again by MediaWiki then the may all fail. I have made a working version of commons::File:Map of Illinois highlighting Cook County.svg and uploaded it as commons:File:Map of Illinois highlighting Cook County corrected.svg. I used the suggested fix [1] by WelpThatWorked. I don't have permission to overwrite Commons files but there may also be hundreds or thousands of files to fix and I'm not doing that manually. The problem is also discussed at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#SVG file not displaying correctly - Microsoft Edge and phab:T367645. The trigger was apparently that MediaWiki updated the used version of the external software librsvg. I’m an unpaid volunteer for a Congressional campaign in West Virginia. Our candidate won the primary race and will be on the November ballot. The other candidate for the same Congressional seat has a Wikipedia article and it seemed in the public interest for our candidate to have one as well. I did looked over your draft that you linked. My only suggestion is that users will have different interests of what they want to edit and such. If you want this to be an actual article that lives on this Wikipedia, then it needs additional citations that are reliable and trustworthy.

Steven Wendelin is running for Congress against Riley Moore who has previously served as an elected member of the West Virginia House of Delegates and is currently the elected West Virginia State Treasurer. There is widespread consensus among Wikipedia editors that elected state legislators and elected statewide officials are notable and therefore eligible for Wikipedia biographies. On the other hand, there is no such consensus for unelected candidates for office unless there is a strong case for notability outside of politics. Wendelin had a long career in the US Navy, retiring as a Commander, equivalent to Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. There is no consensus or agreement that officers of this rank are eligible for Wikipedia articles except for extraordinary cases that generate significant coverage in reliable sources, and that does not seen to be the case for Wendelin. Hi, I have read through the citation guidelines but cannot find a clear directive for the following.

I am working on an article and I have references that are clippings from magazines and newspapers supporting facts I am stating about the subject. These are old ( 30+ years and not online ) and in some cases I can attribute author, date and publication name but for others the author is unknown as they are truncated extracts (clippings) where only the date and name of the publication is known. If the reference were to be challenged, or required to be proven, I have no way of attaching the image of the clipping...what do I do?

@Danjam607 Hello, and welcome to the Teahouse. WP:OFFLINE says basically that if your source is WP:RS, go ahead, add the info you have to your cites. See for example Skeeter Reece, which has some off-line cites. Can this be abused? Sure, but the default assumption is that you won't make stuff up, and that if you do, we'll be able to deal with it at some point. If you haven't, check archive.org, you never know.

Your post here said Ctegory:Organization founders and mentioned "the other categories" so it sounded like you were trying to link a category and somebody changed it to Category:Organization founders which is a category. Ctegory:Organization founders is not a category, it's a link to a non-exisitng Wikipedia article called "Ctegory:Organization founders". There is no reason to make such a link. If somebdoy does it in an article then the best fix is to change the obvious misspelling of "Category", assuming the article belongs in Category:Organization founders. I did edit it and another editor who seems to specialize in spending very little time on edits reverted it without fixing the obvious. Then when i posted it having been reverted asked about it and instead was criticized about posting some thing wrong. I dont know what the original poster of the link was attempting to do. All i know is that I attempted to correct it. You haven't burdened the situation by making too many edits but by concealing which edit or page you were posting about. We get many inaccurate posts from users who misunderstood something. The question has been answered and publicly naming that person involved in the revert will not change the outcome. There is little to gain disclosing someone's foible yet not doing so earns someone the distinction of concealing information to judge. When another editor altered the posted question it confirmed that the revert should never have happened. A review of the time log showed mere seconds were used in review of the many reverts posted. No explanation is given justifying the revert. What would have been interesting is if a warning was issued by this editor calling attention to the use of the sandbox instead of direct article editing. Hi @Henrybardklein. Your best bet is to use referencing in the visual editor by following the tutorial at WP:INTREFVE. This is a word-processor style interface, so not markup language, and likely much easier for you to use. Hi, I'm a new editor just learning the basics. I stumbled upon the page Noro and realized it doesn't include Issei Noro, so I want to fix it by adding other people and places already on wikipedia to the list, since I have made some minor edits on other pages and it seems simple enough.

However, I realized that there are 10 people on wikipedia with that surname, and after looking at pages like Dauphin and Dauphin (surname) I thought that maybe I should create a new page for Noro (surname) instead and edit the Noro page accordingly, with a link to that new surname page. It's a judgement call. Personally, I would simply add "Issei Noro" into the existing "Noro" page. That's because the lists are small. "Dauphin" is a bigger dataset, and in that case I can see why it is two separate (although cross-referenced) lists. As you come across other Noro-related articles, simply add them also. This will help you gain experience, not only in the technicalities of doing the edit, but also the weighing up of things and decision-making. (On the other hand, if you already, at this stage, know that there are many tens of items to be added to (say) the surnames, you might decide to perform the split earlier rather than later.) @WindowColorCenter: Based on the info at Draft:Corveta_Ipiranga_V17, the ship was built in 1953 and wrecked in 1983. Based on WP:COPYEXP, it will depend on the circumstances of the particular photo if it is freely available or not. I suggest asking at WP:MCQ and including details on which photos you are considering. That's where the copyright-knowledgable editors answer questions.

@WindowColorCenter:, yes you can change it later. However, I would withdraw the submission, as your Draft is not ready for mainspace yet as there are various problems. For starters, the lead needs to be entirely rewritten. The lead should be a summary of the main points of the article, and should not contain unique information not already covered in more detail in the body. For an article of this length, your lead should probably be just one sentence, and the current first sentence is adequate for now. Everything after that should be part of the body of the article. Hey, I wanted to add a portrait of someone named Hans Westenberg, recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award. But unfortunately I only found two of his portraits. The first image has complete information such as who the photographer is, but it is a little blurry and has a watermark, while the second image comes from Ramon Magdaysay's official website and the portrait is clearer, but it is clear that the background has been photoshopped, so there is only a portrait of Hans and the background is a room. So the question is; Can I remove the watermark from the first image (without make the image clearer from the blur), or secondly can I still upload the second image which is clearer but has a photoshopped background. I have no idea on the logged in thing, you're obviously logged in atm.

On infobox params, for an infobox like say Template:Infobox_person#Blank_template_with_all_parameters, you can only add the parameters that are part of the template coding, so to speak, you can not invent a new one like say "daughters", you have to use the existing "children" (and it has to be written right, no extra capitals etc). The Template: Infobox person I chose indicated I could add additional parameters to the template. When I added the parameters and written the information to each, all my edits disappeared -- or didn't show up -- on the draft when I published it :(. That is mighty odd :O! Could it probably be a glitch in the system? How often does this happen? And when it does happen, what do you recommend I do to rectify it?

@Eleniofillyria: The page didn't use {{Infobox person}} before my edit. It does now. Images can only be displayed in Wikipedia if they have been uploaded to the English Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons. One thing I always say to new editors: please don't even think of trying to create a new article until you've been editing for at least a few weeks, made a significant number of edits (to articles) that haven't been reverted, and have understood the five pillars of Wikipedia, and how to interact with other editors when there is disagreement. Template:DISPLAYTITLE/doc § Introduction explains the single rule: if you copy the displayed title of a page, and paste it into a link, the link needs to go to that page. Thank you for being open about your conflict of interest. As that link tells you, you are permitted to create a draft using the articles for creation process, and submit it for review. I would recommend that you disclose your COI on your user page User:Luong alois before you begin.

Creating a new article is one of the hardest things to do in editing Wikipedia - even without the COI issue - and I always advise new editors to not even think about doing so until they have spent several weeks or months learning how Wikipedia works by making edits to existing articles: once they have understood fundamental principles such as verifiability, reliable sources, neutral point of view, and notability, then they can read your first article, and give it a go.

Then, you should look at each of your sources critically, and ask if it meets all three of the criteria in the golden rule: is it reliably published, is it completely independent of your sibling, and does it contain significant coverage of your sibling?

If you can find several that meet all these requirements, then you can continue. You need to forget everything you know, think, or believe about your sibling, and write a summary of what those sources say - even if you think they are wrong. @CrowdedMusic I have nominated the logo you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons for 'speedy deletion'. If you genuinely are the owner of Crowded Music, you appear to have given everyone the right to use your company logo as they see fit. That would seem quite daft, to be honest.

But if you are not the copyright owner, then you had no right to upload a trade-marked logo and release it for others to use as they see fit. We take copyright violations very seriously, and always default on the side of protecting copyright holders, rather than allowing stuff to be uploaded and released unlawfully.

In the article about the Model 33 Teletype, I found "The sole electric motor in the machine has to be left running continuously whenever unattended operation is expected, and is designed to withstand many hours of idling."

As a former technician who used to overhaul various models of Teletype equipment, I can state this is false. Generally, the machine would be powered down and power up automatically when a connection was being made to it. This was the case in both dial up services, such as Telex or TWX and also for polled circuits. In other situations, such as when used as a computer terminal, it would be manually turned on or off, as needed. No, edits cannot be reassigned from an IP address to an account. All you can do is write on the IP page and user page that you are the same person. This is permitted and no evidence is required. centralauth-merge hasn't been relevant since the mw:SUL finalisation in 2015. All accounts which could be merged were merged back then. It's debatable whether or not it "edits" Wikipedia, but it can certainly change the contents of a page, if for example that page transcludes a template or image which has been changed. It doesn't change the stored wikitext of a page but it can change how the page is currently rendered for everybody, not just the user who made the purge. @Myrealnamm: Yes. It requires significant server resources to render a page from its wikitext, partly due to our extensive use of templates which have to be processed. For efficiency reasons, the rendered version of a page is cached after an edit and certain other events like a purge. They are required to use the WP:AfC process so their efforts can be approved (or not) by experienced editors. Note that the citation is the key aspect of our articles: the Archive link is just for the convenience of readers so they can easily verify what we say. You can simply type - After a statement.<ref>details of the reference</ref>. Which will create the well known numberered citation like this.^[1]. I guess this is about Draft:Yamaha RX Special. I haven't checked whether the sources you've listed are reliable. But you need to cite each source directly after the statement (or statements) it supports. Confirming that IMbesharam is Extended protected, meaning that non-accounts cannot edit, nor can any registered account under 30 days and 500 edits. I work for the company Ontotext, and the Wikipedia page for an Ontotext product https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontotext_GraphDB has not been edited since a few years before I joined. I understand why Wikipedia doesn't want company employees adding marketing material about their companies to Wikidata, but I would just like to update the dates and release numbers on the page and maybe remove some out-of-date bits.
